Leiden - As you might know, we are almost on our way to the Andes Mountains. We began already to prepare ourselves for this trip through hole South America. We called hotels and made reservations. We send a container by boat to Guayaquil. And of course we bought personal things: bicycle components, helmets, medicines, books, clothes, sleepingbags. All what we need in order to be 'save'.

There are still some weeks to go. The departure officially starts the 9th of august in Quito (Equador). But the CREW is already beginning to work.

Rob and Wilbert are officially the bosses of this trip. They decided to make this dream a reality, and founded together a trip organization called BIKE DREAMS. They are already discovering the world by bicycle... they have organized the Paris-Dakar tour by bike and La ronda de Italia.

It will be their first time in the Andes. Rob has already been there to explore. It's officially their first Andes trip.

They are flying monday to Lima. I'm lucky to fly together with them. The idea is to pick up a small truck from Arequipa (Peru) and take it to Quito, Equador. Yes, guys, this trip won't be only by bike, we're also taking two cars with us. The cars will help us with the organization and of course in case of an accident, is always handy.

Kirsten, the cook, will be coming 3rd of August to Quito.
Didier, the medicine-man, will also arrive those days to Equador.
And Ewald will arrive the 5th, just in time, to begin direct with the trip.

We are excited and happy to make this happen. In a few more weeks we'll be in the middle of the mountings breathing fresh air and smelling the nature.

Alain de Botton, the writer, says that travelling also involves anticipation. What does he mean by Anticipation?

Anticipation is what we imagine before departure.

I have here a CD called The departure Lounge and I imagine myself at the airport with my big rugsack running to the gate before the plane leaves. Also, I see myself arriving at Lima Airport and taking the taxi to the city centre.
And of course the day we departure from Quito (Equator) to Ushuaia, Argentina. Eleven thousand kilometers come up into my mind, with green and grey mountains, and high white peaks. I already start having feelings: where i'm going? what I do here?

We're getting started, nearly. Some days to go. It's the final countdown now.
